Chris Ouellette takes up the newly created role, having joined at the beginning of April, reporting to the company’s global head of sustainability, Jane Ambachtsheer.
Ouellette joins from Manulife Financial Corporation, where he worked as head of global corporate citizenship. There, he managed the group’s global sustainability strategy, including environmental risk management, sustainability reporting and stakeholder engagement.
“Chris Ouellette has extensive experience in developing and implementing CSR and sustainability policies within global financial organisations,” Ambachtsheer said in a media statement.
“This will be key as we embed sustainability into the heart of our strategy, our culture and global operations, aligning with the wider BNP Paribas Group. I welcome him to BNPP AM and look forward to further deepening our commitment to sustainability with his help.”
The company said that the creation of the new position will help the fund firm to transition to become ‘fully sustainable’ in line with plans outlined in March.
Prior to his role at Manulife, Ouellette worked at Royal Bank of Canada, where he was part of the sustainability team, working across the group’s business units.
He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a master’s degree in Environmental Studies. He also holds LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation from the US Green Building Council.
