Asset manager Carmignac has appointed Fabienne Cretin-Fumeron and Stéphane Dieudonné (pictured) as senior fund managers.

The pair join the France-based firm from Candriam where they ran its merger arbitrage strategy for 18 years, first at ADI before moving to OFI Investment Asset Management in 2009 and to Candriam five years ago. In announcing the appointment, Carmignac said it intends to launch two merger arbitrage funds with different volatilities managed by the duo, in the first half of 2023, targeting professional investors.

Cretin-Fumeron joined Deloitte & Touche as an auditor in 1997. In 2001, she joined ADI as a risk arbitrage fund manager. She was appointed co-head of the risk arbitrage team in 2003 and became head of the team in 2008. ADI merged with OFI in 2009, where she continued managing a risk arbitrage strategy and became head of absolute return management.

Dieudonné, meanwhile, began his career in 1997 at Oddo & Cie as a junior analyst in the corporate finance department. In 1999, he joined Deloitte & Touche as a senior analyst in the M&A department. In 2001, he moved to Kepler Equities as a financial analyst. He then joined ADI in 2004, as a European equities and credit analyst, before being promoted to co-head of the Risk Arbitrage strategy in 2005. ADI merged with OFI in 2009.

Maxime Carmignac, managing director of Carmignac UK, said: “We set high long-term ambitions for our alternative range and are delighted to welcome Fabienne and Stéphane to our team. Their long and successful record managing a merger arbitrage strategy will help broaden our alternative investment franchise and provide our clients with access to attractive and uncorrelated products.”
