Asset manager DWS has restructured some of its senior management team, reports from Germany have indicated.

As reported by the German site Fonds Online, Björn Jesch, the firm’s global head of investment, has seen his duties transferred to Vincenzo Vedda, head of active at the firm, with immediate effect.

Fonds Online quoted a message it said had been sent to the firm’s employees, which read: “In order to further strengthen the function of the global CIO, we have decided to bundle all Active Liquid portfolio management activities and integrate Multi-Asset & Solutions into the Active Division under the leadership of Vicenzo Vedda.”

After the move, the firm said Jesch would focus entirely on capital markets, explaining: “Under the leadership of global CIO Björn Jesch, the Chief Investment Office and the Research House will focus fully on capital markets. As a result, we will further maximize the value and quality of our tactical and strategic views on all liquid and illiquid asset classes and enrich them with thought leadership.”

‘Making room’

It has been reported elsewhere that Jesch was appointed to his current role in September last year, following Stefan Kreuzkamp’s departure from the firm. It was also reported that Kreuzkamp left the firm after over two decades through an early termination of his contract in order to “make room for the new management team”.

Expert Investor wrote an extensive report on the moves last September. Back then, DWS hired Peter Brodehser as head of its infrastructure investment team in Frankfurt. Joining him was Katharina Thomas, previously head of portfolio management at Talanx subsidiary Ampega, where she and Brodehser worked together.

Taking over Jesch’s duties is the Germany-based Vincenzo Vedda, who has been with the firm for nearly 10 years. His LinkedIn profile says he joined the firm in August 2013 as global head of trading, before moving to the position of being the firm’s head of client coverage for the EMEA region (excluding Germany) and global head of wholesale and digital coverage in June 2020. He switched to his current role in September, taking on Kreuzkamp’s duties in November last year.
