Syz Capital to bulk out crypto business with Richard Byworth hire

Syz Capital has appointed Richard Byworth (pictured) as managing partner.

The alternative investment arm of Syz Group said Zurich-based Byworth would also serve as the head of liquid alternatives, a move that it believes affirms the firm’s ongoing growth. As of October 2022, Byworth leads all aspects of the liquid alternatives portfolios, investment, and advisory including sales for the firm.

Marc Syz, managing partner at the group, said: “Richard is a driven, entrepreneurial, and growth-focused leader. His digital asset experience allows us to build on our strong history of hedge fund selection to offer viable investment alternatives that can benefit from the high volatility in the sector.”

Byworth started his career in investment banking in London, later moving to Asia, where he ultimately became managing director for Japanese broker Nomura. Most recently, he developed, built, and listed the first digital asset ecosystem onto Nasdaq as CEO of Eqonex Group.

The entry of Byworth into Syz Capital comes as the firm is gearing up to build its competencies in the world of cryptocurrency.

Yvan Gaillard, CEO of Syz Bank, said: “Bitcoin and digital assets are here to stay, and we want to provide our clients with the opportunity to access them in a safe and secure way. Richard’s arrival in the group is perfectly timed as the entire group looks at building up its competencies in this space.”
