Though America’s largest public pension fund Calpers announced earlier this year it would dispose of all its hedge fund investments, amid similar declarations by European pension schemes, North American investors still invested a net $2.2bn in hedge funds during the seven months to the end of July.

Many European investors have turned their back on hedge funds, after their mostly disappointing performance since 2008. They see alternative Ucits funds as an alternative, pouring in a record net €42,9bn in the first six months of 2015 alone, according to Morningstar fund flows data.
